U.S. Fighter Jet Mishap on Carrier Amid Tensions

US fighter jet rolls off aircraft carrier as ship reportedly swerves Houthi fire

A U.S. fighter jet rolled off the deck of an aircraft carrier into the Red Sea after the ship reportedly took evasive action to avoid potential fire from Houthi militants in Yemen, according to a report by The Guardian.

The incident occurred as the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower maneuvered abruptly in response to perceived threats from Houthi forces, who have been targeting ships in the region amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East. The jet, which was stationed on the carrier's deck, slid overboard due to the sudden movement.

While the U.S. Navy has not confirmed whether the jet was operational at the time, recovery efforts are underway. The incident highlights the risks faced by military personnel in contested waters, where Houthi rebels have repeatedly launched missiles and drones at commercial and naval vessels.

No injuries were reported, but the loss of the aircraft marks a rare and costly mishap for the U.S. military. The Navy has not disclosed the specific model of the jet or further operational details, citing security protocols.

The Houthis, who control parts of Yemen, have intensified their maritime attacks in solidarity with Palestinians amid the Israel-Gaza conflict. The U.S. and its allies have increased patrols in the Red Sea to counter these threats, leading to heightened tensions in the region.
